S03E24: Is The Girl Code (or Guy Code) Real?

Calling Dibs Episode Summary:

Is there such a thing as the girl code (or guy code) when it comes to adult relationships? Do you owe it to a friend to ask before dating or pursuing a mutual friend or ex? When, if at all, is it okay to call “dibs”? Your hosts dive into this topic thanks to a letter from a listener about a friend, a boy, and a whole lot of resentment. Also in this episode of Dating Kinda Sucks, Sarah gets ready for a sleepover, Adam talks about a new crush, and we learn what a lie can really do to negatively affect a relationship!

Host Thoughts on the Guy Code / Girl Code

The biggest problem I have with the whole “girl code” and “guy code” thing is that people think the code will dictate how the other person will act. Like we discussed during this episode, Kevin had a choice the entire time. Just because Lisa’s friend wasn’t happy about it and called girl code didn’t change the fact that Kevin had the potential to like Lisa and want to date her. If you’re going to date a friend’s ex, give it time and always let them know.

You owe it to a friend to treat them like you’d want to be treated. You don’t have to ask for permission if you want to date someone from their past, but you do owe them the respect of telling them. And if you’re just trying to fuck a friend’s ex, grow up.
